Jeep Gladiator Rubicon

While plenty of vehicles on the market offer a rugged off-road experience, only some are truly up to the task of navigating off-road trails safely. A rare few, such as the Jeep® Wrangler, have earned the distinction of the Jeep Trail Rated® badge, indicating the pinnacle of safety and control in traversing difficult off-road terrain. Hunt Chrysler Center explains the Trail Rated badge’s meaning and how a Jeep vehicle earns one.

What Is the Jeep Trail Rated Badge?

To earn the Trail Rated Badge, a Jeep model needs to demonstrate not only sufficient traction and maneuverability but also:

  • Ground Clearance – Are the approach angle and departure angle sufficient to keep the underside of the vehicle away from ground hazards?
  • Water Fording – Is the bottom of the vehicle sufficiently sealed to protect its air intake and vulnerable electronics systems?
  • Articulation – Can the vehicle maintain stability when one or more tires is off the ground?

How Does a Jeep SUV Earn a Trail Rated Badge?

To earn a Trail Rated Badge, a Jeep model is subjected to a series of intensive tests to ensure it has what it takes to stay safe when off-roading. Only vehicles that prove their abilities on treacherous terrain are awarded the coveted badge.
